Arequipa and the Colca Canyon

Founded in 1540 and declared World Heritage site in the year 2000, Arequipa is the second most important city of Peru. Located at 2335 meters above sea level, this beautiful South American jewel, also known as the "White City," has preserved its spectacular architecture. It's also full of unique attractions. Surrounded by peaks over 5,000 meters high and guarded by the Misti, a 5,874 meters high volcano, it's geography starts with the Colca Canyon, one of the deepest canyons in the world and the best place to spot condors in their natural environment. Among other attractions, it has a valley of elfin volcanoes, glaciers, inter-Andean valleys, native communities, and Cotahuasi Canyon, the second-deepest canyon in the world. In Arequipa you will find some of the best rivers for rafting; one of the best cuisines in the country and much more. Arequipa also has the National Reserves of Aguada Blanca and Salinas in the highlands, and the National Reserve of Mejía, next to relaxing beaches. In these reserves you can see over 150 species of birds and mammals.

Suggested Itinerary

Day 1 | Arequipa

At arrival to Arequipa, transfer in to your hotel. After check in, city tour; first we proceed downtown, we will visit one of the most impressive architectural monuments in town, the magnificent Monastery of Santa Catalina and then we continue with the beautiful Main Plaza and the San Ignacio de Loyola Church.

Day 2 | Arequipa

Today we have the tour to the beautiful Arequipa countryside, starting with the majestic Yanahuara viewpoint, where we will observe the Misti, Pichupicchu and Chachani volcanoes; then we go to Carmen alto viewpoint to observe the pre-Inca terraces, and then to the Orchards were we will see Arequipa avocados, the Paucarpata agricultural terraces, the Sabandia mill, Tingo district and the Sachaca observation point. Return to Arequipa in the afternoon.

Day 3 | Arequipa - Colca Canyon

Morning departure to Colca Canyon, on the way we visit the Aguada Blanca and Salinas Reserve, which is located at 4800 meters above sea level, arrival to the village of Chivay at midday. Night free.

Day 4 | Colca Canyon - Arequipa

Early in the morning we depart to Cruz Del Condor, border cliff of one of the deepest canyon on earth. Here with a little luck we will spot the Andean Condor; we will also visit various towns and observation points of the canyon along the way, return to Chivay at midday. Lunch in Chivay and return to Arequipa. Arrival to Arequipa in the afternoon.

Day 5 | Transfer out
