The natural setting, on the eastern slopes of the Andes, encompasses the upper Amazon basin with its rich diversity of flora and fauna. Most archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was built as an estate for the Inca emperor Pachacuti (1438–1472). Often referred to as the "Lost City of the Incas", it is perhaps the most familiar icon of Inca civilization. Then we will have free time to enjoy the complex on your own. In the afternoon we will return to Aguas Calientes and take the train to Ollantaytambo, from there bus to our hotel in Cusco. Night free.
